Baseball Recap: Stephenson Finishes Season Undefeated

A Junior Varsity win over Lakeside clinches the title for the Jaguars.

Corey Forde and Brian Strong collected three hits each to lead the Stephenson Jaguars to a 10-3 victory over the Lakeside Vikings in the championship game of the Randy Case DeKalb County Junior Varsity Baseball Tournament at Sequoyah Middle School on Friday.

The victory gave Coach Gene Washington’s Jaguars a perfect 17-0 record on the season as Stephenson scored eight unanswered runs after falling behind 3-2 in the top of the third inning.

Stephenson had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second only to have Lakeside answer with three runs in the top of the third to take the 3-2 lead.

The Jaguars regained the lead at 6-3 with four runs in the bottom half of the third inning. Stephenson added insurance runs in the form of two runs each in the fourth and sixth innings to close out the 10-3 victory.

Jordan Ballou added two hits to the cause for Stephenson to join Forde and Strong with a multiple hit game.

Coach Dwayne Johnson’s Lakeside Vikings finished the season with a strong 11-5-1 record in making their fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament championship.
