The Power of Home Surveillance Cameras: Are You a Believer?

While a home surveillance system can be a bit pricey and sometimes challenging to maintain, the costs would appear to not outweigh the benefits for some people.

For many people, their home is one of the most important things they own. But just how far are people willing to go to protect their home? Or even themselves and their family?

Last week in the heart of Midtown Atlanta, police arrested a teenager who earlier this month had been caught on tape committing an armed carjacking and home invasion of a man who was simply attempting to take out his garbage.

Authorities said the surveillance video was useful in helping identify the teen and eventually leading to his arrest.

Earlier this month in LaGrange, Ga., a home security camera captured a U.S. postal worker driving on a homeowner’s lawn to deliver a small package.

This month in northwest Atlanta, home surveillance cameras depicted the steps taken by a burglar to break into a home and steal items from it.

There’s little doubt that a home security camera can aid in lowering incidents of vandalism or theft. While a home surveillance system can be a bit pricey and sometimes challenging to maintain, the costs would appear to not outweigh the benefits for some.

  • Are you one of those who believe in the power of surveillance cameras?
  • Have you taken the steps to install home surveillance cameras to help protect your safety and property?
  • If not, with brazen crime occurring all around us, are you considering installing cameras in the near future?

I am a believer! I don't think that home cameras have to be expensive either. I found a nice kit online at http://Platinum-cctv.com and have been very happy. The kit I got wasn't their most expensive, but even still they helped me set it up and get it online so I could watch it. Already I have helped catch a neighborhood burglar, and even provided video for a bank theft that occurred up the block. I think that after events like the boston marathon, these camera systems are essential, so we can provide evidence of what happened and even get alerts when someone is even approaching the house (like I do). I just can't imagine not having my cameras these days.

I have had 3 CCTV cameras showing the street in front of my house and area around the front door. It isn't set up to record so it isn't as good as those mentioned but I can see what is going on in the area and who might come into the driveway or approach the door. All from 2 locations in the house and all from my TV screen and not a seperate monitor.
