[Update] Walmart Gets Another Two Weeks to Propose Its Memorial Drive Store to DeKalb Commissioners

Citing changes to its plans, Walmart asks for, and gets, a deferral on presenting its plans to the Board of Commissioners until Feb. 14.

Editor's Note: This story has been updated with the correct date of the Board of Commissioners meeting, which is Feb. 14.

On Tuesday (Jan. 24) Walmart asked the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners for more time -- two weeks, until the next board meeting -- to present its proposal for a new supercenter on Memorial Drive near N. Hairston Rd.

The reason? Walmart needs to "fine tune" some changes its made to its plan - mainly, it has decided to not have a sign on the N. Hairston side of the building, so "we don't have it facing Kenilworth," said Amy Hillman, an attorney representing Walmart, speaking of a nearby subdivision. There will be signage on the building's front, facing Memorial.

The trip before the board of commissioners is the third in the retailers' process of seeking approvals to move forward with its desire to build a nearly 150,000 square foot store that would sit on about 14 acres on the proposed site.

The next board of commissioners meeting is Feb. 14.
