Update: DeKalb Commissioners Approve T.G.I. Friday's Late Night Hours

At its November meeting, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved T.G.I. Friday's request late night hours, with outdoor security, Madolyn Spann, planning manager with the county's Department of Planning and Sustainability told Patch.

T.G.I. Friday's hopes the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners will give it permission to stay open late at its new location in the former Flambeaux restaurant space, 2871 Stonecrest Cir. in Lithonia.

At its Nov. 1 meeting, the DeKalb County Planning Commission recommended approval of the request, said Madolyn Spann, planning manager with the county's Department of Planning and Sustainability.

The casual dining restaurant, which has work underway at the location, is asking commissioners for the OK for a Special Land Use Permit (SLUP). The board votes on the matter on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m., at the DeKalb County Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Dr. in Decatur.

Burke Brennan, chief communications officer for DeKalb County, explained that all applications for a late-night establishment  -- a place that's open past 12:30 a.m. and serves alcohol -- need a SLUP even if the zoning is compatible.

T.G.I. Friday's generally keep late hours. In Duluth, the restaurant closes at 2 a.m. most days of the week. The one in Alpharetta closes at 12 a.m. five days a week. The concourse location at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport closes earlier, at 10 p.m.
