Stone Mountain City Council To Meet in New Municipal Building Tonight

New City Hall address is 875 Main Street.

The day is finally here.

Nearly one year after the groundbreaking of the new city hall in the City of Stone Mountain, the space will hold the city council's regular business meeting tonight, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m.

If you've driven past the site over the last few weeks, you've seen workers making huge progress in a short period of time, putting the finishing touches on the building, from putting up the stone facade to landscaping.

Some delays in the project meant moving in couldn't happen before the end of 2011. The hope at one time was to have the building open by last August.

The government, the police department and the municipal court will move from the historic train depot to the spacious new building at the corner of Second and Main streets, at 875 Main Street.

The depot, part of which was built before the Civil War, will become a museum and visitor's center.

The new building will have more space for employees, and public restrooms. The council chambers will be used for a variety of community functions, including events for seniors.

The new City Hall address is 875 Main Street.
