Ready for Sunday alcohol sales in the City of Stone Mountain? Not so fast.

There are a couple of important steps to go first.

Voters in the City of Stone Mountain in the Nov. 8 election, but don't plan just yet on buying liquor on Sunday from any of the three stores in the city that sell it.

In fact, check back in December.

Before you can legally buy alcohol on Sunday in the city, the municipality first has to amend its alcohol ordinance, explained city manager Barry Amos.

The initial reading of the amended ordinance will be at the City Council work session next Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.

Then he said there will be a second reading and vote determining when Sunday alcohol sales will start at the City Council's regular business meeting, Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m.

On Nov. 8, voters in the city decided on Sunday alcohol sales, Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) and three City Council races.

Voters picked the incumbents - Richard Mailman, post 1, who ran opposed; Cyril Mungal, post 2 -- the only post that had a total of four candidates; and Chakira Johnson Sallee, post 3, who also ran unopposed.
