New City Hall Grand Opening April 13

The city council held its first meeting there in February.

The city of Stone Mountain will have a grand opening of its new municipal building April 13 from 3-7 p.m.

Mayor Pat Wheeler said at Tuesday's regular business meeting that the official ribbon cutting will be at 3:30 p.m. All are invited.

The government, the police department and the municipal court have moved from the historic train depot to the spacious new building.

The depot, part of which was built before the Civil War, will become a museum and visitor's center.

The new building has more space for employees and public restrooms. The council chambers will be used for a variety of community functions, including events for seniors.
