Meeting Notes: Dog Park Closes Temporarily; Sunday Alcohol Sales Start Dec. 11

City of Stone Mountain moves to close dog park until further notice after hearing residents' complaints last month.

The Stone Mountain City Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to temporarily close the dog park at Poole and Third streets.

The "closed" signs are due to go up today.

The move comes after council members during last month's work session heard some city residents who live near the dog park share problems such as noise, parking, pet owners and their dogs walking on private property.

People can start buying alcohol from retail establishments in the city starting this Sunday, Dec. 11, 12:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m.

The council also voted to amend the times for sale for alcohol beverages.

The council also voted to table the proposal for a cell phone tower at McCurdy Park.

Mayor Patricia Wheeler said another location is being investigated that would not have any issues about impeding on private property.

Anyone know what the deal is on the "temporary closing" of the dog park? Seriously? It was about the only thing I really enjoyed in this silly city!
