DeKalb Human Services Secures $200,000 in Grant Funding

The goal is to target recidivism exacerbated by mental health issues.

DeKalb Interim CEO Lee May has announced that the County received a competitive U.S. Department of Justice grant that will provide funds to enhance community-based programs that target recidivism exacerbated by mental health issues.

The primary purpose of the ONE DeKalb-START2 grant is to increase access to mental health and other treatment services for those individuals with mental illness or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders who are incarcerated in the DeKalb County jail.

The DeKalb Community Service Board has a long history of working in conjunction with the DeKalb Sheriff’s Office, in the management of programs such as the Second Chance Act Co-Occurring Disorders Program (SCACOD) that focuses on treatment and behavioral management, the statement said.
