Commissioner Watson Supports TSPLOST

Watson said his decision was made "with some reservation"; calls the measure "a new investment strategy for South DeKalb."

DeKalb Super District 7 Commissioner Stan Watson is backing TSPLOST.

Citizens for Transportation Mobility (CTM) and Untie Atlanta on Tuesday announced Watson's endorsement of the Regional Transportation Referendum. CTM advocates the passage of the Regional Transportation Referendum, which is on the July 31 ballot.

“This decision was made with some reservation; however, I weighed the options heavily and I see this as a once in a lifetime opportunity to build on a regional network for transportation in the State of Georgia,” Watson said in a press release sent by CTM. His Super District includes the Stone Mountain area.

“This T-SPLOST for me represents a new investment strategy for South DeKalb that can fulfill a promise that we have been patiently waiting for over the past 30 years," Watson said. "The funds generated by this referendum, in my opinion, will create tremendous growth in DeKalb County and produce jobs for our community and eventually our promised rail. It will develop a sustainable employment and activity center at Stonecrest and at other nodes along the
corridor. This aggressive approach will also help to secure the rail that has already been paid in full by the citizens of DeKalb County.”

TSPLOST has been a hot-button issue among voters.
