City's Five-Point Intersection Revamp Put on Hold

City council pulled the project from this year's budget.

City council voted on Tuesday to amend this year's budget, pulling a planned revamp of the five-point intersection of Main Street, James B. Rivers Drive, Ponce de Leon Avenue and Silver Hill Road.

At Tuesday night's meeting, City Manager Barry Amos said the cost of the project "has continued to escalate," and the department of transportation has limited funding for it. "It's no longer financially feasible to do it alone," he said.

The revamp would have closed off Silver Hill Road at the intersection, making it a four-way crossing. The intention was to ease congestion caused by commuters between south DeKalb County and Atlanta.
