Council Meeting Notes: McCurdy Cell Phone Tower Rejected, Champion School to be Recognized

The City Council in Stone Mountain had its regular business meeting Jan. 3.

The Stone Mountain City Council voted against a proposed cell phone tower at McCurdy Park at Tuesday's regular business meeting.

The council also approved the contract for Clark Patterson Lee's design for drainage improvements at Ridge Avenue and James B. Rivers/Memorial Drive intersection, at $21,140. Mayor pro tem Chakira Johnson Sallee -- whose council appointment was among those voted on (and unanimously approved) Tuesday night -- asked when the fix was anticipated to happen. City manager Barry Amos said it would probably be at least 90 days.

Entrance Marker

The annual Martin Luther King parade will take place Jan. 16.

The Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia Trend has awarded the Stone Mountain Arts Microenterprise Program (SMart) with a Trendsetter Award, which us scheduled to be featured in the magazine next month and presented Jan. 22.

"We're really excited," Mayor Pat Wheeler said.

Recognizing Champion Middle School

The City Council discussed issuing a proclamation to , which was in November.
