City Council Discusses Main Street Director Job

Main Street Stone Mountain has been without an executive director since earlier this year.

The future and structure of the Main Street Stone Mountain executive director position was discussed at Tuesday's special called meeting and its work session.

Main Street Stone Mountain (MSSM) has been without an executive director since Kim Delaney left earlier this year.

The way the job is currently set up, the person would be a city employee and report to the city manager.

But another structure is being proposed by Main Street Stone Mountain, where the executive director would report to it and the person would not be a city employee. The person would receive a salary but not benefit under this plan.

The Downtown Development Authority has concerns about how it would be served if the set up were changed.

City council members Richard Mailman and Cyril Mungal both said additional conversations are needed on the matter.

With several big city events on the horizon, including the first in the Movies on Main series, many just want the ball rolling.

"Here we are a few weeks away from the first movie. You need to know how difficult that is going to be," said MSSM vice chair Jack Sartain during the citizens' comments period.

The Downtown Development Authority will meet Monday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m.  to look over resumes and members of MSSM were also invited attend and suggest picks for further review.

"Maybe we can move forward with getting someone as quick as we can," Mayor Pat Wheeler said.
