Victim Initially Thought Robbery Was a Joke

Inside the police reports: A man working at the Chevron gas station told DeKalb police one of the suspects frequented the store.

A man working at a Redan Road Chevron gas station told DeKalb police he thought the July 2 early morning robbery at the store was a joke at first, according to the police report.

The man said he was looking out of the side door window at the gas pumps when the first suspect came into the store from the opposite side door, which the victim had his back towards.

A second suspect placed an unknown object, believed to be a handgun, against the small of the victim's back and told him to go to the register and "give me all the money," according to the report.

The victim told police he thought it was a joke for a moment because he recognized the voice of the second suspect, who frequently comes into the store throughout the week, the victim said.

The victim figured out the situation was serious when he looked behind him and saw that both men were wearing face masks.

The first suspect walked with the victim behind the cash register and demanded he open it. After he did, the second suspect took about $200 from the machine.

The police report says both suspects then fled from the scene on foot. The incident happened sometime between 4 a.m. and just after 5 a.m. July 2.

The responding officer said he spoke with an employee who witnessed the incident from the back of the store and also recognized the second suspect.
