Movie Theater Workers Robbed at Gunpoint

Suspect wearing a red bandanna over his face took at least $1,500 in cash.

Two movie theater workers were robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday.

After walking his co-worker outside, an employee returned inside to close Frank Theatres at 2244 Panola Rd. in nearby Lithonia when he saw the suspect walking from the north end of the business wearing a red bandanna over his face, presumably due to the cold, the employee told DeKalb County police.

The suspect then walked behind a wall and could not be seen, the employee stated; seconds later, according to the report, the suspect walked inside the business with an assault rifle and ordered the employee to lay on the ground.

The suspect asked one of the employees to open the safe and hand him the money - between $1,500 and $2,000 in cash, according to the report. Before fleeing, the suspect took both victims' cell phones, one of which might be equipped with a GPS tracking device, one of the employees told police.

The suspect was spotted by one of the workers leaving the parking lot in a vehicle heading south on Panola Road toward Covington Highway.

The victims told police there was no security tape available.

The suspect is approximately 21-24 years old and was wearing a red bandanna over his face, red shirt and dark pants.
