A Tucker woman took matters into her own hands when a neighbor called her shortly before 8:30 Tuesday morning to inform her that someone was breaking into her Lee Street home.

According to DeKalb police spokesperson Mekka Parish, the woman returned to her residence to find two teenage boys inside. Surprised, one of the youths fled out the back door, but the other tackled the woman while attempting to exit the premises.

As the two struggled, the woman was able to grab her gun and fire “several rounds at the suspect as he fled” Parish wrote in an email.

Police, who had been called by the neighbor, arrived on the scene to capture and arrest both suspects.

The boys, ages 16 and 17, are local residents who were skipping school according to police. Their names have not been released and there were no injuries suffered during the incident.
