Teen Suspect in Multiple Burglaries Arrested

Detectives believe Chris Derby may be connected to about 30 local burglaries which occurred in the past year.

DeKalb Police have announced the arrest of a 19-year-old believed responsible for breaking into multiple businesses and cars along Mountain Industrial Drive and Lawrenceville Highway. 

Christopher Derby was taken into custody on Oct. 23 and is charged with four counts of burglary. 

According to detectives, the most recent incidents occurred Oct. 16 at 4611 Greer Circle and Oct. 13, at 5430 East Ponce de Leon Avenue. In these cases Derby is suspected of breaking windows to enter a business and car. Tools and electronics were taken in both instances.

Two additional burglaries occurred at offices located in the Stone Mountain Industrial Park on Sept. 17. The investigation revealed that Derby walked into the locations of 4661 and 4880 Hammermill Road and took employee’s personal items including checkbooks and jewelry from inside unsecured offices.

Detectives also believe Derby may be connected to more than 30 additional burglaries which occurred in the past year. The investigation into those cases continues.
