SUV Driver Slams Into Stone Mountain House

A woman and three children escaped unhurt but the driver had to be extricated by rescue crews.

A man who lost control of his SUV and slammed into a Stone Mountain house last week is being charged with striking a fixed object.

"I couldn't see what was around there, what had hit the house. I didn't know what it was," said Dorothy Cater, who was in her bedroom with three grandchildren when she heard the car crash into her Big Valley Lane home.

Her neighbor, Barbara Smith, told Fox 5 that she saw the SUV barreling down the road towards Cater's home. "It looked like he was trying to stop it and it didn't. It pulled to the left and that's when I said to my daughter, ‘he isn't going to be able to stop,'" said Smith.

The driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle, told Cater his brakes had failed. "I called the gas company they told me to get out of the house because there could be an explosion," said Cater.

No injuries were reported.
