Report: Parents Left Small Kids Home Alone

Both parents are now in police custody.

Three children who police say were left home by themselves are now in state custody, and their parents are facing charges.

One of the children is an eight-month-old girl who was taken away by an aunt while the parents were out, WSB reports, leaving behind her two and six-year-old siblings.

After a two-hour search of the Marquis Pointe complex in Stone Mountain on Sunday afternoon, detectives found the baby in the safe company of an aunt who took her after finding the three children alone inside their parents' apartment. "She knew that the (baby) cannot take care of itself, so she took the child," said Artime.

"They (the parents) said they were outside for just a few minutes and then somehow the eight-month-old was missing," said DeKalb Police Lt. Joseph Artime.

"It angers me," neighbor Alfonso Araujo said. "How can you leave an eight-month-old baby alone and you step out?"
