Report: Police Arrest, Charge Man for 'Hoax Device'

Channel 2 reports that the electronic devices on Daniel Guillermo Tudela, who was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail Tuesday and later released, were not dangerous.

Channel 2 and AJC.com report that Gwinnett County police arrested a local man and charged him this week with having a hoax device.

The man, Daniel Guillermo Tudela, "had no intent whatsoever to give any appearance of possessing a destructive device of any kind," his lawyer told Channel 2.

The arrest followed an incident a couple of weeks ago where Discover Mills employees reported seeing wires and electronics on Tudela, who is of an unspecified part of the Stone Mountain area. Tudela was seen walking toward a movie theater at Discover Mills, according to the report.

The devices, which included a phone, weren't dangerous after all.

Tudela was booked Tuesday on the misdemeanor. He was released from the Gwinnett County Jail a few hours later, according to the report.

The news outlets pointed out that the incident came almost two months after 12 people were killed and 58 others injured in a mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater, and two days after the eleventh anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
