Update: Off-Duty Cop Shot during Armed Robbery

DeKalb police officer was victim of armed robbery and was shot defending himself.

An off-duty DeKalb policeman was shot during an armed robbery at Landmark Mountain View Apartments as he tried to defend himself Monday night, the police department said.

The officer, 32-year-old Landers Burton, was shot in the buttocks and is in stable but critical condition Tuesday after surgery at the Atlanta Medical Center, DeKalb Police Department spokeswoman Mekka Parish said in an email.

The officer's wallet was stolen, the police said.Β

Two suspects left in a dark-colored car, possibly a Toyota Camry. A person of interest has been identified by detectives, Parish said, but no charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning.
