A court hearing was postponed Friday for a 21-year-old DeKalb County mother charged with felony murder for allegedly suffocating her 3-year-old daughter.
Meriel Kathleen Bemis, 21, who reportedly lives in the Landmark at Mountain View Apartments near Stone Mountain, was arrested following the Feb. 23 death of her 3-year-old daughter.
The girl, Lela Bemis, was pronounced dead on arrival at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, after her mother’s boyfriend had called police. Merial Bemis reportedly told police she killed the child because she was upset over a break-up with her boyfriend, says the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
A bond hearing scheduled Friday for Bemis was not held because the judge scheduled to hear the case was not in court.
It is unclear when Bemis will have an opportunity to seek bond.
