A hooded, masked thief swiped $450 from the Comfort Inn & Suites at 5355 Stone Mountain Highway in unincorporated Stone Mountain on Nov. 19 around 5 a.m. as the hotel's night clerk prepared breakfast in the kitchenette, according to a Gwinnett County police report.
The clerk had been going in and out of the kitchenette area for about ten minutes, he told police. He did not hear the front doors of the inn open because the door to the kitchenette was shut and he was listening to music on headphones, according to the report.
The clerk spotted the suspect behind the counter when he walked out of the kitchenette.
The 5'8" suspect was wearing a dark hoodie with the hood up, and a dark mask or scarf over his or her head, the report states. Surveillance video further showed the suspect was wearing purple rubber gloves, blue jeans, and black boots, according to the report.
After watching the surveillance video, "and seeing the movements of the suspect, it is possible that the suspect may be a female," the officer said in the report.
The officer also said the "quick escape out the side door through the back office and laundry room shows that the suspect may be employed at the hotel or has worked there before."
The hotel's general manager said there is only one female around that size, but he was not sure.
