Man Charged with Arson After Police Standoff Leads to House Fire

A man who was reportedly holding people against their will in a Lithonia house is under arrest for allegedly setting the house on fire, says CBS Atlanta.

Christopher Maurice Brown, 45, was arrested on multiple charges by the DeKalb Police Department after the standoff a home located in the 5600 block of Regency Manor Court, reports FOX Atlanta.

Brown faces two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of false imprisonment, battery and first-degree arson. He was booked into the DeKalb County Jail.

The Red Cross tells FOX 5 News that four people were displaced from the home as a result of the fire.

One person was injured during the fire and was taken to an area hospital, the station says.

Police responded to a call about 4:45 a.m. Friday from a woman who claimed she had been assaulted by Brown and he was holding her and others in the home against their will, says CBS.

Officers reported that two women and a man got out of the house safely, but Brown refused to leave. Officers, believing the man might be armed, called in a SWAT team.

Shortly after 8 a.m., the man set the house on fire, authorities said.

The woman who was assaulted is believed to be Brown’s girlfriend.

According to DeKalb County Fire & Rescue, the home is a complete loss.
