The funeral took place Tuesday of Mensaft Abraham, who died following a brutal attack by a robber at his liquor store, American Package in Stone Mountain.
Abraham had been in a coma for days at Grady Memorial Hospital's intensive care unit and succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Konter Kelley, 31, was arrested last Wednesday for aggravated assault but will now also be charged with involuntary manslaughter following Abraham's death, police said.
Abraham had tried to prevent Kelley from stealing a bottle of vodka and was punched in the head, according to reports. He fell and suffered a severe brain injury.
Outside the store on Tuesday stood a vase of flowers with a note that read: "Mr. Abraham, you will truly be missed." It was signed by Stone Mountain Pawn, located a couple of doors away.
"He was a really nice guy," the pawn shop's owner, Rick Bryan, told Patch. "It's crazy. Senseless. All that over an $8 bottle of vodka." Bryan said Abraham was well-liked and that "tons of people" have been coming by asking about him.
Abraham is survived by his wife Lemlem Abraham and a 19-year-old son who is away in college.
