Leads, But No Arrests, In Recent Murder Case

The incident occurred at the Hampton Village Apartments on Tree Mountain Parkway Oct. 23.

DeKalb County police are following leads but have made no arrests in connection with an Oct. 23 murder at the Hampton Village Apartments on Tree Mountain Parkway in unincorporated Stone Mountain, spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

Police arrived at a unit in the complex to find a female with several gunshot woulds to her body in the back of the apartment, according to the police report. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. last Tuesday. A male victim told police that he and his girlfriend were in their bedroom watching a movie when they heard a loud noise in the front room. Three to six men wearing all black broke into the apartment carrying handguns and shotguns, according to the incident report. Police noted damage, including two foot prints, to the front door and deadbolt lock.

The suspects came into the victims' bedroom and demanded that they get on the ground.

The male victim said the suspects took his wallet; his girlfriend said her cell phone was taken. Then the suspects tied them up and had them lay in the rear bathroom's tub/shower, they told police.

According to the girlfriend, the woman who was fatally shot arrived on the scene after the suspects had busted in. The man's girlfriend said she heard the female friend scream, start to run, then the gunshots.

The victim also told police she heard the suspects bring the friend to the back of the apartment. Both victims waited several minutes before untying themselves and getting help. A fourth victim fled on foot before the police arrived, according to the report.

In August, a man was shot and killed at the same apartment complex, in the parking lot.

Hello, I am considering moving to Dekalb County, but after reading all of the horror stories on so much violence. I am wondering if there is any city in Dekalb County, that is pretty safe to live in? Please help me before I make a terrible move. Thanks,

Hi Wendy. Before I moved here from Charlotte, N.C. in 1998 I just did a lot of research. I visited a number of areas throughout DeKalb and talked with local residents and police officers. No place is crime-free, as you know, but there is much you can learn about what's going on by asking the people who live there questions, checking crimemapping.com for activity in a certain ZIP code, address or city. That's probably one of the best resources out there.
