Late Night Fire Breaks Out in Stone Mountain House

The sole occupant escaped without injury.

A woman escaped unharmed late Wednesday night when a fire broke out in her Stone Mountain home.

She was reportedly alerted by a blown circuit breaker shortly before 11 p.m. and was able to get out of the house, but her two cats did not survive.

The house, in the 300 block of Nalley Drive, suffered "heavy damage to contents in the room of origin and sent extensive smoke and heat throughout the structure," according to Captain Tommy Rutledge of the Gwinnett County
Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

The woman, whose name has not been released, denied Red Cross assistance and was planning to stay with relatives. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation, Rutledge said.
