Funeral Set for Police Officer Killed in Crash

Traffic delays are expected during Friday morning's rush hour due to closures of surface streets.

The funeral service for DeKalb Police Officer Ivorie Klusmann has been scheduled for Friday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 6400 Woodrow Road in Lithonia. Funeral attendees are asked to be seated inside the sanctuary by 10:30 a.m. in advance of the arrival of the Officer Klusmann’s family.

Klusmann was killed early Saturday morning while in pursuit of a driver who sped off during a traffic stop. Gregory Lee Harvey, 27, of Stone Mountain, is being charged with felony murder, reckless driving and theft by receiving a stolen vehicle.

The staging area for the police processional to the funeral is the Kohl's parking lot at Stonecrest Mall, 2929 Turner Hill Road in Lithonia. Only representatives in marked law enforcement units are allowed to participate. Participants must be in place by 9:15 a.m. and the processional will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m.

Residents and commuters traveling near Stonecrest Mall and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church are encouraged to take alternative routes. Traffic delays are expected due to road closures of surface streets, according to a statement from the DeKalb County Police Department.

The day before, on Thursday, Aug. 15, there will be a public viewing from noon until 8 p.m. at Levett Funeral Home, 4347 Flatshoals Parkway in Decatur.
