Update: Arson Suspect Charged

Mia Hamer of Stone Mountain was charged with first-degree arson in connection with a Snellville apartment fire.

Mia Hamer, 46, was charged by Gwinnett Fire Investigators with first-degree arson in connection with an August 5 fire at a Snellville apartment complex.

Hamer was apprehended Friday, August 12, according to Tommy Rutledge, a spokesman for Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

Investigators said the Stone Mountain woman "intentionally set fire to clothing in a bedroom closet belonging to her daughter's boyfriend." The boyfriend was in the shower, and three adults and four children were in the apartment at the time. They were able to put out the fire, and there were no injuries.

Hamer set the fire because of domestic dispute with her daughter's boyfriend, investigators said.

“We are fortunate that no one was injured or killed and that the fire was able to be put out quickly,” Rutledge said in a press release.
