AJC Report: Former School Bookkeeper Pleads Guilty To Theft

Shirlene Benton was convicted of using a school credit card to purchase more than $12,000 in products for her personal use, the AJC reports

Shirlene Benton, who used to work as a bookkeeper at , pleaded guilty Thursday to theft by taking and will serve six months of the sentence in jail, the in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The rest of the sentence will be served on probation.

The AJC article reports that Benton, who was convicted of using a school credit card to purchase more than $12,000 in products for her personal use, must also pay the school back, and can never work with money again.

According to the AJC article, referring to court officials, Benton was accused of buying a Blu-Ray DVD player, a 50-inch plasma TV, an iPod and more with school funds.
