17 Units Damaged in West Gate Manor Fire

DeKalb Fire Department is still investigating the cause of Saturday's fire on West Mountain.

Seventeen units and the leasing office were damaged or destroyed by Saturday's heavy fire at West Gate Manor Apartments, manager Bonnie Richardson said.Β 

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the blaze on West Mountain Street, DeKalb Fire Chief Eddie O'Brien said Monday.Β 

A firefighter hurt her shoulder while pulling sheetrock during the fire and was taken to the hospital. She was released Saturday night, Chief O'Brien said.Β

"We're just blessed" that no residents were injured, Richardson said. "We just have to start over as a family and community and see to it that everybody gets what they need."

Chief O'Brien said the call came in at 3:44 p.m. and there was a heavy blaze when the firefighters arrived. They were on the scene until 8:23 p.m., he said.
