Following The Refi War….What Now?

What now with the refinance?

Since my blog last week about trying to refinance my home, I’ve been contacted by two representatives from my lender.  Both were profusely apologizing for the delay, simply saying they are “so busy” and that I got lost in the shuffle.  What they didn’t remember, albeit I have been reminding them in every conversation, is that my mortgage takes one entire paycheck, meaning I get to buy food once a month.  Who can do that?

So over the weekend I got another Good Faith Estimate (GFE), which was mailed after the first one expired.  This one extended the date of the Estimate….how convenient for them.  Since when did they get to call all the shots?

When I got a call today from one of the representatives, I pointed out that I had  received another GFE extending the date, but that it was “too late” and now we  needed to renegotiate our contract.  They agreed.  So, I was able to bring the agreed percentage rate down another point.  However, I also learned that they conveniently forgot to send out paperwork in the last three months to a company crucial to the Closing.  I contacted that company and confirmed they have not received any paperwork.  That company stated “if” they receive this paperwork this week, it will turn around in approximately another month.

Another month of once-a-month eating.  How convenient.  I only wish this once- -month eating was helping my diet, however, the 25-cent Ramen noodles are not helping my waistline, just my pocketbook.  They beat the $2.00 Taco Bell lunch, which also, by the way, is terrible for my waistline.  I've managed to locate every discount available to me, and started profusely cutting coupons.  It's a way of life for me now (not that this is a bad thing).

So trying to be optimistic, the silver lining is that my payments will decrease further, good for me, but when that will happen remains to be seen.  Maybe this will be my Christmas present!
