More Free Family Fun in SMV This Weekend!

Back to School Bash for school supplies & FREE Movies on Main with Justin Bieber!

If you're anything like me, you are wondering where in the world the time is going?!  It's now mid-July!  School supplies have hit the retail stores. Yep, it's time to start thinking about school supplies already!

The City of Stone Mountain is doing its part to help community members and their families with the costs associated with the end of summer and the reality of picking up those backpacks and heading back to school. This Saturday, July 16, city officials have organized their 2nd Annual Back to School Bash to take place under the Pavilion on the Baptist Church lawn in the heart of downtown. From 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., volunteers will be on hand to distribute free school supplies to Stone Mountain community children in kindergarten thru middle school, while supplies last. City Manager Barry Amos says they have enough supplies for about 1,000 children. Bags will include the basics like pencils, rulers, erasers and crayons.

This event is taking place thanks to Stone Mountain City officials including Mayor Pat Wheeler, City Manager Barry Amos and Council Members Chakira Sallee, Steve Higgins, Susan Coletti, Nan Nash, Cyril Mungal and Richard Mailman. Corporate and business sponsors include Headley Construction Co., Allen Lumpkin or Pritchard & Jerden, Nash Security, the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain, Stone Mountain Memorial Association, Stone Mountain Handbags at OPO Emporium, Senator Steve Henson, Representative Billy Mitchell, Pattillo Construction Co., TriScapes, United Grading, Wages Funeral Home, Site Design Services and Wal-Mart.

If you come out to the Village for the Back to School event, be sure to plan to stay for the FREE Movies on Main event! July's event is Justin Bieber's Never Say Never.  The movie begins at sundown. Pack a picnic dinner or grab some food to go from one of the Village's many fine eateries and bring the whole family to this fun, free event. There will be food vendors on hand selling snacks and treats and Main Street Stone Mountain will be giving away T-shirts and bumper stickers.
