So, You Want to Be An Actor? Here Is Your Chance

Guide into getting into the entertainment industry as a movie extra.

A lot of people think that in order to get into the industry you have to pack up and move to Los Angeles. This is simply not true. There are many movie studios that are making Georgia their home. Whether you have an agent and are auditioning for those speaking roles or only want to work as a background extra, this is your chance. Becoming a movie extra is a good way to see the behind the scene workings of the television industry. You would be a background actor. Your job will be to fill in the background and do and be whatever the scene calls for. One thing for sure is that every movie or television show need background extras to make the scenes look real.

Now you may be thinking “How can I become a movie extra?” Georgia has multiple extras casting agencies that are ready to put you to work if you are a fit for the scene in which they are casting for. The only thing you need is a few good looking snapshots of yourself, an email account, and access to the internet. One of the ways that casting agencies reach out to potential background extras is social media. Now, Facebook is a huge tool that casting directors use to seek potential talent. These agencies would normally set up a group or page, you will follow it, and they will post what they are looking for. If you fit the bill, you would need to send an email with your pictures and descriptions attached to the email address of their choice. Your submission will be reviewed by casting and you will be contacted on where to report for work. That’s it. Like my daughter says “Easy Peasy”.

It is important for anyone that wishes to break in to this industry to take a realistic approach and not look at this type of work as a full time job. Each assignment will be a daily assignment unless informed otherwise and, same rules apply for any other job that you get, you must have a valid picture ID and Social Security Card. Look at the movie extra industry as multiple temporary assignments. As long as you keep a professional attitude, and are not star struck, this could be the start of an exciting journey.
