Philanthropy: How Do Stone Mountain and Lithonia Rank?

The Chronicle of Philanthropy today came out with its special report "How America Gives" - and it's worth noting how Stone Mountain and Lithonia rank.

For example, ZIP code 30087 came in at 479th of 28,725; 30058 holds 1,689th in rank while 30088 ranked 4,035th.

The Chronicle found that in Utah and Mississippi, the typical household gives more than 7 percent of its income to charity, it said. In states such as Massachusetts as well as three other New England states, the average household gives less than 3 percent, according to The Chronicle.

The report is based on the Internal Revenue Service's most recent available records of Americans who itemized their deductions, the Chronicle says; the study examines taxpayers who earned $50,000 or more in 2008.
