Lithonia Donating Gifts to Disabled

Donated items will go to Georgia Regional Hospital on Dec. 4.

Lithonia will be doing its part to make the holiday season special for people with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs.

A program called Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade has been relying on citizen participation for 55 years to donate gifts to patients at regional behavioral health hospitals who would otherwise not be recognized.

Many of the patients at these hospitals have lived there most of their lives and have little support or contact with friends and family, according to a press release from the City of Lithonia.

Donated items will be delivered to Georgia Regional Hospital on Dec. 4. Civic organizations, businesses, churches, schools, scout troops and individual citizens are encouraged to help with the collection of gifts for the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade.

For more information on how groups can participate, please call Councilwoman Shameka S. Reynolds at 770 482-2358 or email  shameka.reynolds@lithoniacity.org
