City of Stone Mountain Candidates: Steve Wells

Wells aims to fill the open council seat left by Cyril Mungal.

Municipal elections take place in Stone Mountain on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for mayoral and city council posts.

"This is my first public exposure," council candidate Steve Wells told Patch. Wells is a former 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force who served as Stone Mountain's Director of Downtown Development from 2007 until 2010 and has lived in the area for six years.

"Communication is lacking between City Hall and the people who live here," he said. He wants to improve schools, lower crime, make infrastructure improvements, and strengthen the commercial core. Wells says there is a need to revitalize the city and broaden the tax base while reducing the rate.

The experience of running for office "made me appreciate what we have here," Wells said.
