City of Stone Mountain Candidates: Patricia Wheeler

Mayor Wheeler is being challenged by council member Cyril Mungal.

Municipal elections take place in Stone Mountain on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for mayoral and city council posts.

Patch met all nine candidates to ascertain their chances and positions.

Pat Wheeler has been mayor of the city for a total of 14 years, starting in the 1980s. "They asked me to come back four years ago," she told Patch. "I enjoy working here."

What does Wheeler still want to do? "I want to revitalize downtown and the depot. I want to have a senior living facility. Can you believe there isn't one?"

Wheeler said the city needs a grocery store as well, and aims to continue area redevelopment, infrastructure improvements, and business recruitment.

The mayor is looking forward to the Christmas Parade on Nov. 29 and exudes a positive outlook, telling Patch, "I smile a lot!"
