[Video] Woman Describes Finding, Comforting Missing Toddler

Melba Williams of Lithonia didn't set out Tuesday to be anyone's guardian angel or a good Samaritan.

She was just being, in her words, "nosy" -- and it resulted in a happy reunion between a mother and a two-year-old child, who went missing from a church fitness center parking lot Tuesday morning.

DeKalb County police say the little girl was sitting in an unattended minivan while her babysitter went into the fitness center at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church for a few minutes. When she came back out, the van and the child were gone (police say the caregiver, Rhonda Rivers, 44, of Lithonia, faces multiple charges including reckless conduct).

See attached video: Williams said she and the older couple she takes care of heard an alert about the missing child. Williams then left the couple's home to pick up some lunch.

After grabbing a burger at a nearby Sonic, she was traveling along Phillips Road in Lithonia, not far from her home, when she saw a vehicle in the Lithonia High School parking lot that fit the description of the car the little girl was in.

Williams was a bit hesitant at first about approaching the vehicle. She dialed her son to get some guidance, but he didn't answer his phone.

Despite some nervousness that the suspect might still be around, Williams went on.

"It was just a chance I had to take because I have six great-grandbabies, and I would want somebody to do the same thing for me," Williams told reporters.

She pulled up and found the child standing up inside the car, screaming and crying, but the little girl was unharmed physically.

Williams called 911 and assured the child that everything would be all right -- that mommy was on her way.
