Panel Appointed to Determine If Ellis Should Be Suspended

Gov. Nathan Deal announced the appointments on Monday afternoon.

Gov. Nathan Deal has appointed a panel to determine whether indicted DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis should be suspended.

Rockdale County CEO Richard A. Oden and Clayton County Commission Chairman Jeffrey E. Turner will determine whether the indictments against Ellis affects his ability to perform his official duties.Β 

Georgia law requires Attorney General Sam Olens to fill the third position on the review panel.Β

Under the executive order, the panel has 14 days to study the case and issue a recommendation to the governor.Β 

Ellis has been indicted by a DeKalb grand jury on charges he illegally pressured contractors into giving him campaign contributions.
