New Food Depot Received Nearly 500 Job Applications When It First Advertised

The store on Panola Road isn't accepting any new applications at the moment, but it will take a look at its employment needs after it opens.

An estimated 500 people applied for jobs at the new Food Depot soon to open on Panola Road when the store first put out signs several weeks ago that it was hiring, Food Depot’s operations manager told Patch.

There were "more applications at this location than I can recall anywhere," Jamey Leseueur said.

By the end of about the first week that the signs were up, he said the store may have received at least 1,000 applications.

Food Depot is not accepting any more applications at the new location at this time, he said.

But since the store -- which had planned to open in January -- hasn't opened yet due to various delays, some of the people hired may have moved on to other jobs, Leseueur said.

The store will take a look at where it has gaps in employment and if necessary will accept job applications again.

The store, which will be number 31 for Food Depot, will probably hire 100-110 people to start, Leseueur told Patch.

The opening date is still being determined.
