Freedom Bells Ring On Stone Mountain Summit

Bells rang on top of Stone Mountain at exactly 3 p.m. Wednesday to commemorate the time and date of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 1963 speech during the March on Washington.

Dignitaries, elected officials, and an Honor Guard were present, as were a crowd of at least a hundred.

11 Alive's Karyn Greer officiated the event and introduced speakers such as Sen. Emanuel Jones, Stone Mountain Mayor Pat Wheeler, Commissioner Gretchen Corbin and DeKalb CEO Lee May.

Students from the Coretta Scott King Young Women's Academy gave a dramatic interpretation of Dr. King's speech, and an 'Interfaith Alliance' of church leaders took turns at the podium.
