9/11 Commemoration in Stone Mountain Village on Sunday

Bugles Across America, Stone Mountain Village will remember nearly 3,000 killed on the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

Stone Mountain Village, along with Bugles Across America, will remember the nearly 3,000 people who died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 in a ceremony this Sunday, September 11 at 7:45 a.m.

The commemoration, hosted by Mayor Pat Wheeler and the Stone Mountain City Council, will take place at the gazebo and flag pole near .

Other participants expected at the ceremony include Commissioner Stan Watson; Rev. Dan Parker; Rep. Billy Mitchell; Senator Steve Henson; Rev. Timothy Depp; George Coletti; Al Lipphardt; Rev. Charles Canty, Jr.; and Congressman Hank Johnson. DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis may attend if the ceremony at the DeKalb Public Safety Center ends in enough time for him to get to Stone Mountain Village.

Bugles Across America member Jack Sartain will be on hand to sound “Revile” at 7:45 a.m., and then "Assembly" for the flag-raising and lowering to half-staff, which will be done by Stone Mountain police chief C.H. Troutman, his officers and the DeKalb Firefighters from the Stone Mountain Station.

"Taps" will be played four times at various intervals in memory of the four planes involved in the attacks: two into the World Trade Center twin towers, one into the Pentagon, and one in Pennsylvania.
