Rotary Club of Stone Mountain Appoints New President, Board Members for 2014-2015

The Rotary Club of Stone Mountain, a member club of Rotary International, a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service and encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, announced this week the appointment of a new president and new board of directors for the 2014-2015 Rotary year.

Chris Brand, president and CEO of Friends of Disabled Adults and Children, was appointed the club’s new president for the Rotary year that began on 1 July; departing president is Cynthia Edwards, vice president of community engagement and public affairs at Georgia Piedmont Technical College, who will remain on the board as immediate past president. Donna Jensen, managing partner at GeoCreative, was appointed president-elect for the club, and will take office as president in the 2015-2016 Rotary year.

“I am honored to have been chosen to serve as president of the Stone Mountain club,” said Brand. “Over the next year, I intend to focus on expanding both our membership and our community involvement, two goals which are inextricably linked. I look forward to working with our members and leveraging their energy and enthusiasm as we work towards building a better, stronger club.”

“It was a privilege and a pleasure to serve as president of the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain during the last year,” said Edwards. “Much of the success of this past year was due to the energy, commitment, team spirit and resourcefulness of my fellow Stone Mountain Rotarians, who worked very well together to make a difference in our community. I am pleased to pass on the duties of president to Chris, who exemplifies our motto of ‘Service above Self’ and will continue to lead our club in a positive direction.”

Chartered in 1965, the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain is one of 34,000 member clubs of Rotary International. The Stone Mountain club raises and disburses funds for charitable, educational and medical research purposes. Monies are raised through social events and service projects organized by the club and donations offered to the club through members and supporters. Some of the many organizations and projects supported by the club include the DeKalb County Elementary Schools (donated dictionaries to 3rd grade students); Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC); Side by Side Brain Injury Clubhouse; Georgia Piedmont Technical College (student scholarships); The Salvation Army (Angel Tree, Holiday Kettle Bell); Stone Mountain Food Bank; Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust (CART); and VFW Operation Santa.
