The certification allows Crews to counsel clients on the best way to claim Social Security benefits in order to optimize lifetime Social Security income.

Crews specializes in retirement planning, with a specific focus on protecting her clients from unnecessary market risk, and income planning. As an Investment Advisor Representative, she is a fiduciary by law to her clients.

“As a fiduciary advisor, my first responsibility is always to act in my clients’ best interests,” said Crews. “Many people make the assumption that they should collect Social Security as early as possible, for fear that the system will fail, or for lack of knowledge about the options available. It is critical for me to be able to provide my clients with avenues that allow them to make informed decisions about the Social Security option that is best for them, and that best suits their overall retirement plan.”

The NSSA program includes approximately 8 hours of training, followed by an extensive exam, and is designed to prepare professional advisors for the myriad of questions that their clients are asking.  Also, with this training, advisors can guide their clients through the many Social Security options that are available.  NSSA advisors are uniquely qualified to help the growing numbers of Baby Boomers.  The program is believed to be the only one of its kind in the nation.

“Social Security income planning should be an integral part of retirement planning for everyone,” says Crews. “It is of particular importance to those who are within 5 years of retirement, and in situations where at least one spouse has not yet started collecting Social Security. There are 10 or more options available to married couples. Most people are unaware of this.”

The National Social Security Advisor program was created by CPA Marc Kiner, and Jim Blair, a 35 year veteran of the Social Security Association.  With 10,000 Baby Boomers turning 65 each day in the U.S., Kiner and Blair, believe that advisors must be educated regarding Social Security.  There are 72 million Baby Boomers nationwide. Boomers are people born between 1946 and 1964.

“For more and more people, Social Security is going to provide an important part of their retirement income,” said Blair. “NSSA advisors are passionate about helping retirees optimize their benefits over the rest of their lives."
