Governor Deal Designates Aug. 19-23 as Georgia Telework Week

Fourth annual observance includes Telework Summits on Aug. 20 and 22.

Despite much discussion in recent months following Yahoo’s decision to remove its telework program, a recent study in metro Atlanta shows telework is booming and that 64 percent of managers believe it provides their organizations with a competitive advantage.

During Georgia Telework Week August 19-23, The Clean Air Campaign, Georgia Commute Options partners and Governor Nathan Deal are teaming up to educate employers about the continued growth of telework and its role as a workplace strategy.

“Our team has worked with more than 250 employers to implement formal telework programs that help increase worker productivity, and save on overhead costs,” said Mike Williams, director of employer services at The Clean Air Campaign. “We’re pleased to join Governor Deal to raise awareness about telework as a viable business strategy and the free resources available to support it through Georgia Commute Options.”

During Georgia Telework Week, The Clean Air Campaign is hosting two free Telework Summit events to provide new ideas and guidance for employers looking to implement a formal telework program, tune up their existing program or expand on the success of their current efforts. There will be seminars in Gwinnett County and the Perimeter area, featuring presentations from AT&T Mobility, Assurant, Chico’s, Georgia 811 and other local employers discussing their successful approaches to telework. Those interested in attending can sign up at GACommuteOptions.com/Telework.

“New research shows that employees with flexible work options like telework are more engaged in their work and, therefore, more productive.” said Tedra Cheatham, executive director of The Clean Air Campaign. “It’s one thing to hear the stats, but come out to one of our Telework Summits and hear from real-life employers in the region who have had success implementing a telework program.”

The Clean Air Campaign has been a national leader in its innovative approach to telework since launching the Telework Leadership Initiative in 2003. Since then, the not-for-profit organization has worked with more than 250 employers throughout the state to start or expand telework programs through Georgia Commute Options, a program that helps employers and commuters choose alternatives to driving alone

“Georgia Telework Week is the perfect time to ask questions directly to employers who have benefitted from having a formal telework program,” said Luiz Montoro, customer care systems strategy manager for Coca-Cola Refreshments. “Our telework program has saved our associates time and money, and has also improved productivity and morale. Everyone wins with telework.”

During Georgia Telework week, The Clean Air Campaign and its partners are asking employers to visit GACommuteOptions.com/Telework, learn about the resources available to support this business strategy and register to attend a local seminar event.
