Zaxby's Eyeing Old Dairy Queen Site on S. Hairston

There's a board of appeals meeting on Sept. 12 to discuss variances from the Greater Hidden Hills Overlay District.

Zaxby's is eyeing a location on S. Hairston Road.

The Athens, Ga.-based chain is interested in building a restaurant at 1152 S. Hairston Rd., information on a public notice sign indicates.

The address is currently that of the now-shuttered Dairy Queen, a stand-alone building, located across from on S. Hairston near the corner of Redan Road.

The restaurant wants variances, or exceptions, from the , which is a special zoning district.

The board of appeals meeting is set for Sept 12 at 1 p.m. at the DeKalb County Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur.

The Greater Hidden Hills Overlay District includes -- among other things -- design standards for new buildings and landscaping within the defined overlay area, which covers about four square miles.

The overlay district is bordered by Covington Highway, S. Hairston Road, Redan Road and Panola Road.
