Weekend Planner: Lego Race, Tree Climb, Movies

Plenty of things are happening in and around town this weekend.

Looking for something to do with the family this weekend? Look no further -- there are lots of options in town and nearby.

1. What: Movies on Main

When: Saturday, June 16, 8-10:30 p.m. (sundown)

Where: Baptist Church lawn, Stone Mountain Village (middle of town)

Why go: A free good time with the family. Scheduled movie: "Puss in Boots."

2. What: Workday at

When: Saturday, June 16, 8:30 a.m.- 10:30 p.m.

Where: VFW Park, Gordon Street, behind Stone Mountain Post Office on West Mountain Street, city of Stone Mountain.

Why go: All are welcome to join community gardeners on this third Saturday work day. Just bring a food item for a potluck breakfast. All the garden's current individual plots are taken, but there's room to go. Read more about .

3. What:  Summer at the Park

When:  Continues through July 29.

Why go: Experience Geyser Towers, a live parrot show called Parrots of Rio, Yogi's 4-D adventure and, of course, the fireworks.

4. What: Tree Top Excursions: Introduction Climb

When: Saturday, June 16, 1-4 p.m.

Where: Panola Mountain State Park, 2600 Highway 155, SW
Stockbridge

Why go: Explore the tree canopy using a rope and harness. This adventure is described as a moderately strenuous activity. One group will start at 1 p.m.; another group will start at 3 p.m. Arrive 15 minutes before each program. Register in advance. $15 plus $5 parking. 770-389-7801.

4. What: Family Bike Ride

When:  Saturday, June 16, 8 -9:30 a.m.

Where: Stone Mountain Village

Why go: Sponsored by , this event is free for all families.  Meet at 901 Main Street at 8 a.m. sharp.  

5. What: Legos: Build and Race

When: Saturday, June 16, 1-2 p.m. and 2-3 p.m. Note: Participants may attend only one of two sessions.

Where: , 952 Leon St., Stone Mountain. 

Why go: Germaine Schweibinz will bring the Legos and show kids how to build a race car and zoom it to victory. For ages 5-12. There is a limit of 24 participants at each session. Admission tickets will be available 15 minutes prior to the program.
