MAY 31

Name and location: Burger King, 6038 Memorial Drive

Score: 87/B

Violations cited: Soda nozzles were unclean, with carbonization buildup and black mildew. Cold foods (strawberry cheesecake and apple pie) weren't kept cold enough.

Name and location: Commons, 4021 Stonewall Jackson Drive

Score: 89/B

Previous scores: 91/A on Nov. 23, 2010, 87/B on March 29, 2010

Violations cited: Cold foods weren't kept cold enough (chopped egg, tomatoes and shredded cheese).

 

Name and location: Kool Runnings Restaurant, 4977 Memorial Drive

Score: 84/B

Previous scores: 76/C on April 13, 2011, 94/A on May 7, 2010

Violations cited: Cold foods weren't kept cold enough. Some boxes of plantains were seen with white mold. Some rice and sugar was stored in dark gray rubbermaid containers with no food-grade liner. The latest inspection report was not posted.

Score: 91/A

Previous scores: 91/A on Feb. 24, 2010 and 100/A on Aug. 28, 2009

Violations cited: Cold foods (raw beef and chicken) weren't kept cold enough.

 

MAY 26

Name and location: Mountain Brew Cafe (mobile unit) 4021 Lakeview Drive

Score: 80/B

Previous scores: 80/B on June 4, 2010, 100/A on Aug. 18, 2009

Violations cited: A cook was seen drinking a beverage without a lid and straw. Bottled water and sodas were stored on top of the hand sink. Cold foods (hamburgers, cole slaw, tuna salad, ham sandwiches) weren't kept cold enough. A chemical cleaner was stored with paper cups. 

 

MAY 25

Name and location: Le Soul, 6254 Memorial Drive

Score: 55/U

Previous scores: 99/A on March 21, 2011

Violations cited: An employee was seen putting on gloves for food prep without properly washing hands. There was no soap or paper towels at the hand-washing sink. Garlic cloves and red potatoes were spoiled.  Raw meats weren't stored separately from one another (beef, salmon, bacon, oxtails, chicken).  Cooked chicken wasn't covered in walk-in cooler. Microwave wasn't clean. Foods ready to eat weren't marked with date and time. Some equipment was stored on the floor. Some food was stored in contact with cardboard. There was no certified food safety manager certificate posted for the public to see. There was a leak at the vegetable sink. 

Note from the report: "A food service establishment that is graded as a 'U' and does not earn at least a grade 'C' within ten (10) days of receiving the 'U' will be requested to voluntarily close until all violations are corrected and/or have enforcement action taken to suspend or revoke the food service permit."

MAY 19

Name and location: Somali Youth Cafe, 5047 Memorial Drive Suite B

Score: 82/B

Previous scores: 70/C on Jan. 5, 2011 and 59/U on Dec. 21, 2010

Violations cited: No certified food safety management certificate was seen. There were no paper towels at the hand sink in the kitchen. Bulk boxes of cups and to-go food containers were on the floor. No chlorine test strips were seen. A build-up of soil was seen on dining tables. Three nymph roaches were seen in the kitchen.
