The Score Card: Stone Mountain Restaurant Inspections

MAY 17

Name and Location: , 5471 Memorial Drive, Suite A

Score: 99/A

Previous scores: 96/A on May 13, 2001

Deficiencies cited: The door on the women's restroom doesn't have a self-closing device. Trash cans weren't available at hand sinks. The walk-in cooler light needs a bulb cover.

Name and location: Madina Restaurant, 5291 Memorial Drive

Score: 82/B

Previous scores: 79/C on April 19, 2011 and 88/B on July 5, 2010

Deficiencies cited: Raw meats weren't kept separate from cooked or from foods eaten uncooked during storage, prep, holding and display. Not all hand-washing sinks had signs visible telling staff members to wash their hands. Equipment was stack wet and not air-dried. Surfaces that don't come into contact with food were't cleaned often enough to prevent soil build-up. Physical faciliies not cleaned often enough (heavy soil build-up on walls and floors, according to the report.)

Deficiencies cited: Food employees didn't wash their hands immediately before starting food prep. There were 10 packages of bread with dates past expiration.

Deficiencies cited: The hood system over the fryers were dirty.

Name and location: Top of the Mountain Concession, Stone Mountain Park

Score: 95/A

Deficiencies cited: Surfaces that don't come into contact with food weren't kept clean of dust, dirt, food residue and other debris. Drip pans at Icee and soda machine had unclean water. The floors had food debris on them. 

Name and location: Katie's Sideboard, Stone Mountain Park

Score: 92/A

Deficiencies cited: Equipment surfaces weren't clean to sight and touch. The kitchen area wasn't properly maintained:  There was grease on floors, walls and ceiling vents.

Deficiencies cited: Four packages of bread were beyond the expiration date by a few days, ranging from May 1 to May 11.

Deficiencies cited: Employee belongings weren't stored properly (employee food and drink was stored on a shelf with produce used for lunches).

Deficiencies cited: Soap and paper towels weren't available at the hand sink. Some foods in hot warmers weren't covered. Foods kept warm weren't kept at 135 degrees or more (repeat violation, legal action may follow if the next inspection finds the same violation). Waste bins weren't at every hand sink or group of hand sinks.

Score: 90/A

Deficiencies cited: Cold foods weren't kept at a temperature of 41 degrees or less. Employee drinks were stored on a shelf with clean pans.

Deficiencies cited: Some foods (beef roast, potato salad, dough and lemon pastry) were store uncovered. The shelves for coffee pots and pitchers was dirty. Cold foods weren't kept at a temperature of 41 degrees or less. The outside of the grill and coolers were unclean.

Deficiencies cited: Hand sink in restroom drained slowly. Protective curtains at the rear entrance were torn and didn't reach to the floor. 

Name and location: Eldridge L. Miller Elementary, 919 Martin Road

Score: 91/A

Deficiencies cited: Cold foods weren't kept at 41 degrees or less (nacho cheese was held at 45-48 degrees).

Name and location: Weeyums Philly Style, 900 Main Street

Score: 88/B

Deficiencies cited: Cold foods (sliced tomatoes) weren't kept at 41 degrees or colder. The outside of the grill was unclean. There was no cold water at a hand sink in the restroom.
